On Saturday 26th March at the UCAN Centre, Tonge Action Group (TAG) celebrated the launch of tongeonline. This website has been created for the communities of Tonge and The Haulgh.
This special day gave the young people, volunteers of TAG and our community development officer the opportunity to demonstrate the skills they have gained in relation to journalism, including inteview techniques, photography, filming and editing. They gathered inforamtion from local community organisations, interviewed local councilllors and gathered information about future events.
TAG supported and guided memebers of the community to browse the website using Apple Macs.
Various activies went on throughout the day, including a visit from Jeff, TAGs official mascot, he kept the young and old alike entertained with his dancing and antics!
The group organised a tombola which proved to be popular as well as cream teas. This gave the members of the community the opportunity to get to know each other as they sat eating their refreshments as well as being able to read the new and exciting newsletter designed by Maddi Richardson, one of TAGs young volunteers.
The members of the public were delighted at the opportunity to be able to hold various reptiles and other exciting creatures very kindly brought by The Reptile Zoo. Community memebers were able find out information about their habitats and eating habits.
This event was supported by other community organisations, representatives from Bolton at Home, The Church at the Centre, St. Augustines Church, the Firebrigade, Community Police Officers plus many more.
TAG would like to thank everyone for their continued support, thank you to the ladies who generously donated the scones for the cream teas.
